“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Acts 2:1-4 (NIV)
This passage is one the most significant milestones in the Christian faith. The moment when the Holy Spirit manifestly fills Christ’s followers. Jesus said Go! However, He also said to WAIT for this infilling. He knew that without it, we would be inadequate, tired, and shadows of what we could be.
I was filled with the Holy Spirit when I was 9 years old at the nightclub we temporarily held church in. I remember the floor being sticky from prior night’s vomit and the carpet having electric coloured patterns. Nevertheless, in that unexpected place, the Holy Spirit filled me. From that day, when I served God, I didn’t have to be self-sufficient. I didn’t have to emotionally push myself. I didn’t have to operate conservatively within my limits so I didn’t burn out and breakdown. I was enabled. I was empowered. I was energised.
When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, what are you 'filled' with? Emotion? Feelings? A buzz? Hype?
You are filled with:
ANOINTING: Supernatural enabling grace that sets you apart for His destiny for your life.
ABILITY: Your actions have supernatural power and your character has supernatural fruit (growth).
AUTHORITY: You live, speak and lead with supernatural boldness and confidence.
If you have yet to be filled with the Holy Spirit, ASK and EXPECT. Begin speaking in tongues and begin living supernaturally (all with wisdom and the covering of your leaders).
Pray: “God, I ask to be filled with your Holy Spirit. I understand it is a promise for every believer. I receive it by faith. I thank you for your Spirit that enables me to do what you have called me to do”.
If you have been filled, continue to believe for higher levels of anointing, ability and authority.
