Recognising - Danielle Hellyer

'After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."'

John 6:14 (NIV)

My parents own a local business in Broken Hill and for many years, my siblings and I have been the ones to advertise for them on TV.  I was about 8 when we recorded our first ad which was 20 years ago!  The most recent ones we recorded were last year and they are still being aired. At least once a week, a student comes up to me at school and says, “I saw you on TV last night” or “You’re the one from TV” or “I love watching you on my TV”. I don’t go around telling people that I’m on a local ad.  The conversations come up because students recognise that a teacher that works at their school is on TV (which they think is pretty cool because they think they know someone famous). After Jesus had fed the five thousand with two small fish and five small barley loaves, people were recognising him as the Prophet who is to come into the world.  Jesus didn’t have to stand up and proclaim who He was.  He did the work of God and performed miracles wherever He went and the crowds recognised Him. People knew who Jesus was through the life He lived and the things He did. The famous quote, “actions speak louder than words”, is absolutely true.  If you call yourself a Christian but continue to live a life that doesn’t represent that, your words don’t hold much weight. Let people see who you are by the way you care, by the way you carry yourself, by the way you believe, by the way you protect, by the way you do relationships, by the way you live and by the way you love.

The Bible is the greatest place to find the answers on how to live the life God has called us to live.

Don’t tell people who you are, live who you are.
