“No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.”
Jeremiah 10:6 (NIV)
I remember this one particular time when Ps David Trinder was renovating his pool area at his house. I used to drop in from time to time to take advantage of his pool. This one day I rocked up and he was building a fence. Me being all of 10 years old thought I would offer to help. I had seen my dad use a drill and I thought I knew how to use one also, so I offered my services. I distinctly remember Ps. David asking me, “Do you know what you’re doing?” I replied, “Ah yeah of course I do!”. So he gave me his drill and I began to drill in a screw in his nice new green fence. Of course, I slipped and put a huge scratch in it. He didn’t yell or grab the drill off me, he just showed me how to do it and I proceeded to drill a few screws in. In his hands the drill was easy to use, almost effortless. In my hands it was not easy and I was in over my head. It is possible for God to have all the power but for his people to live in total weakness because we don’t know or understand how to use the power that’s available to us. The name of Jesus is just like that, how well you know it will determine how well you use it. In my hands the drill was clunky and not very effective or powerful. It had the same potential as in Ps. David’s hands, but my ability was nowhere near where it should have been to get the most out of it. We are like that with the name of Jesus. There is full potential and power available for you and me, however, we don't always understand or engage it correctly, and so we feel like we are powerless. What we need to do is get to know Jesus. The more we know Him, the more His power will be evident in our lives. The power of heaven is available for every one of us, we just need to engage with it.
