“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”
Psalm 37:23 (NKJV)
Every morning, my 5 year old comes into my room, climbs into my bed and wakes me up with, “What are we doing today, Mum?”. For us, most of our days are the same, school! Nevertheless each day he asks me. When I reply, “school,” he continues with, “and…” and keeps going until I say, “that’s it”. Then he is satisfied. The other morning he slept in and I went to wake him. As I said good morning to him, his first words were, “What are we doing today, Mum?”. It’s become a habit to him! He makes me laugh. However, as I woke without him the other morning, it was like I went through this whole scenario in my head, as it is now a part of my waking. What are we doing today? And this is when God reminded me of this verse. My steps, our steps as a family, are ordered by the Lord. We want to do each day, what God has planned for us. “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 NLT) We make plans, but we submit them all to Him to guide us in our day. We then change the way we view our interruptions. They are no longer a long way to get to our purpose, but rather, they become His purpose in us. We can see each opportunity that arises as a moment to see how we can bless someone, or relook at the things we are doing, alter them and then continue. But the greatest thing about this verse, is that God has us in His hands as we trust and delight in His ways. There is great hope in this, great assurance of each step we take being all a part of His plan. He promises to make our paths straight. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV) So today, as you start your day, put your plans into God’s hands. Delight yourself in Him, trust Him with all your heart and know that he will order your steps, determine each one and make your paths straight. This is His promise.
