“…though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)
Remember that you are passing through. In many of life’s challenges, there are often moments when we feel stuck or wonder when this will change. However, we must remind ourselves that we are passing through our situation. In Psalm 23:4 (NKJV) David reminds us of this: “…though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” These thoughts of passing also apply to our salvation, giving us a picture of a pilgrimage (a journey). “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” (John 5:24 NKJV) Now we are on a journey of faith and we must remind ourselves that God is neither absent nor stagnant. In Psalm 84 we are reminded again that we are passing through valleys! “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion.” (Psalm 84:5-7 NKJV) The Valley of Baca was a valley that was known as the valley of tears and a very difficult and dry place! Perhaps you are in a painful family situation which looks impossible, or some other difficult circumstance. Sometimes the most difficult place is in waiting for things to change, but remember the Lord is faithful to His word and you will pass through! The psalmist encourages us to make it a spring. In older days they would dig holes in expectation of rain coming (pools of water to drink). Choosing to worship rather than worry will fill the pools of your life with God's presence and cause you to go from strength to strength! When we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, we experience the greatest passing through, and that is, from death to life! One day we will pass from this life into eternity. How wonderful! Until that day comes the Lord still has much for us to do. Someone once said, “Everything you ever dreamed of is sitting on the other side of not giving up”. Remind yourself: I'm passing through.
