“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
About three jobs ago in 2016, I worked doing aged care assessments. I would go into older people's homes, find out what support they needed, then organise the services for them. One day, I met an older husband and wife that really pulled on my heart strings. She had cancer, he had Parkinson’s and they were doing it really tough. They lived just around the corner from our house. When I was driving to work in March this year, I looked over at their house and felt God say “contact them”, so I went home and wrote them a letter. I left them with my phone number and told them to call if they needed anything at all. Days passed and I hadn’t heard anything from them. Until, a few weeks later I received a text from an unknown number:
“I was so touched to receive your letter! In July last year I had a severe stroke. Doctors saw the scans and said I would never walk, talk or be able to eat again. After 3 and a half months, I walked out of there eating and talking! The doctors don’t know how myself or my husband are still alive. He was so sick in January that he was told he wouldn’t get out of hospital. He did. God has it all pegged out. He doesn’t want either of us yet! When God didn’t open the door for me when I nearly died twice, it means He still has a job for me to do…”
These two have been severely unwell yet have beaten the odds and still know that God has a plan for them. Their situation isn’t holding them back from realising that God still wants to use them on this earth.
It doesn’t matter where you are in your life, what you’ve done, where you’ve come from or who you are… God has a purpose and a future for you! Never forget that.
