Exodus - Ps Joy Horan

11th July 2020

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month.”

Exodus 40:1-2 (NIV)

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the birth of Impact and 23 years of Pastors Ian and Yvonne, we can be assured that the Lord is doing something profound. The number 40 is a very significant number throughout the Bible as it usually represents trial followed by an outpouring of blessing. We can have exceeding expectations during these times that God is going to pour out His divine blessing, and what is amazing is we are all benefactors in this blessing! The book of Exodus is a deep and beautiful picture of deliverance, redemption, freedom, and how God had spoken of the Israelites as His own.  As we look closely we can see Jesus throughout the whole book of Exodus and also in the instructions to build the tabernacle! The symbolism is remarkable and exquisite. This is a study well worth embarking upon with its unfolding layers of His perfect sacrifice and our part in the building of the church. The setting up of the tabernacle is astounding, and the artifacts were symbolic of Jesus and us. The Ark of the Covenant - represents the Holy Spirit and His Presence. The Curtain - that was torn in two means we now have access to God. The Table - represents reconciliation between God and man. The Lampstand -  Jesus the light of the world. The Incense - Prayer. The Washbasin - We have been made clean through Jesus. The Anointing oil - We have been set apart. As we read on we see that the purpose of the tent was to reveal the Glory of the Lord. “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.”  (Exodus 40:34 NIV) All these things speak of wonderful days ahead for Impact and the 40 years of history that have gone before us.
