“Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, And the Lord listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the Lord And who meditate on His name. “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them As a man spares his own son who serves him.”
Malachi 3:16-17 (NKJV)
Have you ever overheard a conversation, where you have been the topic? You may have heard things that were amazing, or you may have heard things that were not so great. Unfortunately, I have heard conversations about myself that were awful and not so great, and hearing them actually broke my heart! My instant reaction was, “they don’t really know me.” While this may be true, in reality, I am not perfect! Despite this, time has shown me that there are elements that people can get very wrong! Having said that, God is completely perfect and He does not deserve one iota of criticism, and I can only imagine that the Lord hears awful conversations like that all the time. Sadly those who say negative things about Him don't, or could not, really know Him! The Bible tells us that this one conversation with these faithful people pleased the Lord. It also tells us that this was a small group of people, as they are called the "FAITHFUL REMNANT" in the heading. When the Bible talks about us fearing the Lord, it is not talking about fear as we know it, but the actual translation is about being in complete awe of Him. These verses tell us that God listened to them, and He wrote a book of remembrance about them. This tells and shows so clearly, that a few people who talk about and love the Lord can have eternal consequences.
During this season, our small gatherings can have eternal consequences when we use our time to honour and talk about Him and His goodness. Can you imagine Heaven listening to our conversations that esteem Him and love Him? This is a good verse to think and ponder on.
