“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
Romans 12:4-8 (NIV)
This week we have the privilege of celebrating the 40-year anniversary of our great church. We are only here because of the people that have gone before us – Ps. Bobbie and Brian Houston (1980-1981), Ps. Kevin and Marilyn Brett (1981-1997) and Ps. Ian and Yvonne Zerna (1997 onwards).
These amazing leaders followed the calling of God and built the church that we are all part of today.
However it didn’t stop with them. There were many many many other people who also helped to build the church. The worship team, the kids volunteers, the people who cared for those who were sick, the cleaners, the cooks, the bookkeepers, the hosts, the encouragers, those who covered them in prayer and the list goes on.
Everyone who follows their calling and embraces the gift and grace that God has given to them leaves a legacy. As we continue to build the church and expand the Kingdom of God, we all have a part to play.
This COVID-19 time is a great opportunity to reflect on the gifts that God has given to you. Are you using your gifts to build the church and expand the Kingdom? Are you in your right fit?
Just like it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a team of people “to impact our world with the message of Jesus”. As you live out the gifting and calling that God has given to you, you will be part of making the Impact vision a reality.
